21st – Went to S.S. & Church. Easter was on Sunday, April 7, in 1901, and Jesse doesn’t mention it on that day.

20th – Worked at the mill. Note again, the weekends had not yet come to Washington State in 1901.

18-19th – Worked at the mill. Went to the I.O.G.T. Lodge.

15-16-17th. – Worked at the mill. Iva’s birthday. Iva Iona Watson was 11 years old when Jesse met her at the Mascot Hotel in Gate City, Thurston County, Washington, and today in 1901 she turned 12. 12th – Worked at the mill. Tom came to see us yesterday, went back today. Weekends had not yet come to Washington state in 1901, and Jesse is still off a day!

11th – Worked at the mill & went to a temperance lecture & joined the I.O.G.T. They made me the Grand Marshall. In 1851, the Independent Order of Good Templars was founded in New York. Their motto was “Friendship, Hope, and Charity.” A progressive temperance group, the I.O.G.T. allowed women to join. In 1868, the group made its first international…

9th – John, Grace, Francis & I went to Armstrong in the evening. Jesse is still off a day! Grace might have been Francis’ older, 19 year-old sister. There is no nearby town called Armstrong. If anyone knows what Jesse means, please drop us a line.

8th – Worked at the mill. Poor Jesse was so tired he didn’t know what day it was!
