23 thru 28th — Drove cattle & hauled sand & rocks & helped on the house. Drilled wheat on Toby place. Fri. Some hobo stole my dinner & had to come in & eat.
It would be hard to think that Jesse went over to Dawn, Missouri, to help drill wheat for any half-siblings of his dad. The only Tobey family that can be found living nearby is William Tobey, Jim Bench’s younger half-brother, but he is living in Chillicothe with no farm. If he did go away for a few days to work around Dawn, that might account for him not writing in his diary for a week. As always, please drop us a line if you have any further information!
