We washed & ate breakfast at the restaurant & at about 5:00 we started out to make it to Ashland, Ore. A fast passenger left Roseburg for Ashland, 144 miles from Roseburg. I passed wood on the engine for 100 miles to Grants Pass then they changed crews there & the new fireman said that one of the strawbosses was on the train & he was afraid to let me stay on the engine, so I had to get off. I waited at Grants Pass for about 2 hrs till about 12:30 when John & Tom came along on a load of lumber & rode on into Ashland. We ate our dinner & stayed all nite at the hotel. This was Wed. night.
