28th – Went to SS. Was elected Superintendent. In the afternoon I went over to the Indian Reservation about 4 miles south of Gate City. Went with B.W. Star & his wife & children. Had a lovely visit. Got acquainted with Mr & Mrs Bets, the Indian schoolteacher. Went to church at night. Bro. Anderson preached.

Benjamin Wallace Starr, his wife Anna May, and their two little kids Benjamin Spencer and George Abernathy are listed in the 1900 federal census at Gate City, Thurston County, Washington. Ben is listed as a general merchant who is renting, and Anna’s younger brother Will Abernethy is living with them and working as Ben’s clerk.

David and Emma Betts are living in Oakville, Chehalis, Washington at the time of the 1900 census. He reports himself as owning and running a farm, his obituary at www.findagrave.com mentions that he was a missionary and teacher “among the indians.”

Jesse and the Starr Family went to visit the Confederate Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation.
