19th – Gathered corn, & I went to prayer meeting.

18th – Gathered corn.

17th – John & I took 2 loads apiece of wood to Chilli. I hauled 2 cords & got $16.50 for it. When one runs $16.50 through an inflation calculator, Jesse’s $16.50 has the same buying power as $496.74 in 2018.  Wow!

16th – Stayed at home till noon. Then went to Marys & stayed till 9:30.

15th – John & I hauled wood to Chilli. & Frank & I husked a load of corn in the evening.

14th – John & I hauled wood to Chilli. Hauled a load of hay in evening.

10th – Gathered corn & went up to Marys. Jesse neglects to mention that it is his brother John’s birthday!  He turned 31 in 1900, and today he turned 149.  

9th- Went to S.S. preaching. Then went up to Mary’s. She came over with me & we went to Church in John’s buggy. Got home about 1 o’clock.

8th – Frank & I hauled hay.

7th-Cut wood & then John, Frank & Leona, Della, Mary & I went to a party at the Johnson’s. Had a dance. Jesse might be referring to the elusive Johnson tenants on the Bench Farm, the family that is not listed in the 1900 Federal Census because they might have arrived after the census was taken in June.  If there…
