7th, Frank & I hauled old boards & made cider. John, Geo., Frank, & I cut corn for Smith & then went to prayer meeting at Sister Walzes.

Smith might be John Michael Schmid, one of the neighbors who Jesse previously mentioned, although in a couple of months Jesse will write of a Tom Smith, but this person does not show up in any census records around Utica, Missouri, in 1900.

In 1857, Jacob Walz immigrated to Livingston County from Benzengen, Reutingen, Wuertenberg, Germany.  He married Elizabeth Ann Smith in 1858, and they eventually had William, George, Grant, Sarah, John, Charles, G.G., Solomon, and Bertha May.  Sister Walz mentioned above might have been Elizabeth Walz or any of their daughter-in-laws.  By 1881, Sarah Walz married Louis P. Dauphine, so it wasn’t her.  If Sister Walz was John Walz’ wife, then it was Alice or Alvinza Womble Walz, William Womble’s sister.
