22nd, went to S.S. & Church in the morning. Then to BYPU at 3:00. Then back to Church that night. Sermons were preached by Bro.Wood from Liberty.

This is the first time Jesse mentions Oscar Lionel Wood in his diary.  Oscar, wife Viola, and three of his kids are recorded in the 1900 federal census as living in Liberty, Missouri, as of June 7th.  It is possible that he travels to different churches in the area, or perhaps he moved to Utica after the census was taken.  Previously in April, June, and July, Jesse mentioned their pastor E. H. Robinson, a new graduate from William Jewell that same year.  Maybe Utica has a series of visiting pastors, or maybe Robinson was a temporary pastor until a permanent one such as Oscar Wood could be found.
