Cousin George Albert Bench was up visiting from Chickasaw Nation (Oklahoma), where he and his wife Amy and kids are documented in the 1900 federal census. George is the son of Julia Ann Reynolds, sister of Sarah Elizabeth Reynolds Bench, and Samuel Wiley Bench. It is not known how Samuel Wiley Bench is related to Jesse’s father James Bench. The only thing known about him is that he was born around 1815 in Ohio. Samuel and Julia Ann were married on May 18, 1854 in Livingston County, Missouri. In 1866 they buried a baby named John Riley Bench in Collar Cemetery, Dawn, Missouri. Fourteen years later, James Bench buried his mother Elizabeth Tobey Johnson next to that baby.
George was born on April 23, 1870, just a few months before the federal census taker documented him and his family living in Lost Creek, Newton, Missouri, where Julia’s Reynolds family was living.
In the 1880 federal census, 10 year-old George and two of his siblings are living with their older brother James Thomas and his wife and newborn baby in Montague County, Texas. It is known that their mother died in 1876 in Texas, but it is not known when their father died.
In 1910 to his death in 1948, George and his family lived in Texas.
